I just finished The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. The book is a wonderfully written story of Haarlem and the hiding of jews during the second world war. If you haven't read it, read it. Much better than the Diary of Anne Frank. Corrie ten Boom survived consentration camps only by miracles which she recounts in her book. She went on to travel world wide, preaching the gospel and telling the story of her imprisonment. She died in 1983. Jim Wilson was a friend of hers.

I should read it - I read Anne Frank's Diary and disliked it, lol. Jim Wilson was a friend of hers?? Wow!
I love that book!!!! It is so much better than Anne Frank. That is so cool that Mr. Jim Wilson knew her!!!
Aaah... The Hiding Place. Excellent book. And I liked Anne Frank's Diary. Both of those are the only two books that made me cry.
And Zane Grey is perfect for camping. Almost as good as Louis L'Amour... :-)
Erin, someone commented to me that Anne Frank's Diary was written by a bratty child, with no hope or joy. Corrie ten Boom was a mature adult, a strong believer in God, and was only strengthened more and more by each trial. Do read it! I think that you will like it.
Kelsie, he did know her and my mom had a chance to go see her in Seattle when Mom was in college, but she didn't go and now she regrets it. But we'll see here latter on.
Daniel, I can't believe that you admitted that. I don't remember crying for Anne Frank's Diary, but I do get misty eyed at the end of the Hiding Place. More overcome with joy and thanksgiving and prayer than anything else.
Oh, I cried when reading Beowulf. Is that wierd or what? lol

Anne Frank never seemed like a bratty child. From what I remember, it was a young teenage girl who was going something we can't imagine going through. Tears came because I could see what she was going through. Reading her diary was very REAL. Corrie Ten Boom was a mature adult. Tears from the Hiding Place resulted from her stalwart faith in God, their deliverance, and the amazing task that they had before them.
Those are my thoughts on those books... I should read them again.
I have not read the Hiding Place. We have to book, but I have not got around to reading it. I have heard from my mother that it is an excellent book though.
I did not think Anne Frank was bratty. Her relationship with her parents was absolutely heartbreaking. And her relationship with her boyfriend was totally and complety disgusting.
Just my opinions. :)
oo... good point about the boyfriend deal, Erin. *That* was pathetic. And the main thing about the book that I didn't like. But I still thought it was good in general.
I agree, Erin. The boyfriend issue was the what wrecked the story for me.
